Recovery University

Recovery University created for Evanston Small Businesses

Introduction:
Recovery University, RU ready?  The purpose of Recovery University, the brainchild of Roger Sosa, Executive Director of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, is to help Evanston small businesses recover and reposition in the COVID-19 business landscape.  Recovery University will be a six-month program designed to provide resources to Evanston Chamber of Commerce members. The Chamber has brought together experts in a wide variety of subjects to provide online classes, coaching, and peer group support.

Program Description:
Twenty one-small businesses have been selected for the program. They range from restaurant owners, marketing, museums, petcare, wellness centers, non-profits and other businesses. Participants will meet three times per month. Each month there will be one online class in a subject like business planning, one coaching session with an assigned mentor, and one cohort support group. Cohort support groups will be led by Dr. Liang, and Executive and Leadership coach and President of Organizational Resources, LLC, WBE, WOSB; Ms. Elisa K. Spain, Leadership Coach and Vistage Master Chair; Mr. Jim Blomberg, Executive Advisor, Vistage; and Mr. Jerry Folz, Executive Advisor, Vistage. Participants will be able to get assistance from experts, coaches, and peers as they develop ways to do business in the new environment.

Business Financial Management
Debt Management
Personal Financial Management
Understanding and Dealing with Rapid Change

Dr. Linda Liang, President of Organizational Resources, LLC, WBE, WOSB, Executive and Leadership Coach, and Elisa K. Spain, Master Business Coach, Vistage will speak jointly about “Understanding and Dealing with Rapid Change.” Dr. Liang will talk about how danger and challenge can lead to opportunity, how to be resilient and how grief and loss can foster creativity and reinvention. Other classes are taught by Cultivate advisors.

The one-on-one monthly coaching sessions will be available to participants who will be coached by SCORE advisors, Vistage coaches, and Figiel coaching. Throughout the program, business owners will listen and learn to experts in various areas, receive tools and action plans to help them set goals and reinvent their businesses and will be supported and held accountable by coaches and mentors.
